When the World Weeps

When the cosmos quakes in grief. No longer containing the sorrow— the breaking it bears witness to overwhelms. Overflowing tears co-mingle into rushing torrents of lament. Tears from the Israeli mother shielding her son from the bullets that take her life. Tears from the Palestinian father desperately seeking refuge for his fleeing family. No distinction in the salty sacrifice of Jew or Arab, the earth receives in quiet impartiality. But when the breaking doesn’t cease and the tears do not relent— Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, North Korea, Sudan; people groups like the Uyghurs and Yazidis; the unhoused and hungry across the globe; untold, unknown suffering— the cosmos quakes. Do you feel it? Do you weep too? Our tears join in this solemn flow of lament and find their earthly rest.

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
